What are reasonable adjustments?
Reasonable adjustments are changes we can make to your assessment so that you can perform at your best, such as extra time to complete an assessment.
Qualifying support needs may be, but are not limited to:
- If you use assistive technology like screen readers or have low vision or visual impairments.
- People with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, visual processing disorders, or other neurodivergent conditions where you may struggle with memory or concentration.
- You experience anxiety or stress when working under timed conditions, for example, those dealing with generalised anxiety disorder, menopause, performance-related anxiety, or similar conditions.
- You find it difficult to process written or visual information, such as visual processing disorders, ADHD, or colour blindness.
You do not need a formal diagnosis to access extra time.
How to access extra time for your assessment
The way to request extra time is defined by the company and their preferred approach.
When you start your assessment you'll see one of three options:
- Self-serve in your assessment set-up (most common)
- Request via your contact at the company
- Request via Spotted Zebra support
We’ll tell you exactly how in:
-
Your invite email
-
The instructions before you start your assessment
If you're unsure, email us at candidate@spottedzebra.co.uk.
Self-serve in your assessment set up (most common)
At the beginning of your assessment, we’ll ask if you need any support to complete it comfortably.
You do not need to contact your company or support unless you run into any issues.
- If you select "Yes, I do", you’ll see a list of support options to choose from.
-
If you select "No, I do not", you’ll go straight to the assessment.
Extra time and other adjustments will be applied automatically based on your answers.
You don’t need to contact Spotted Zebra unless you have questions.
Your answers are private. We do not share them with the employer. They’re only used to support your experience.
Self-declare your accessibility needs
If you answered "Yes, I do", you’ll see a list of common support needs.
Select all that apply — this helps us adjust your assessment to better suit you.
If none of the options fit, you can contact us via live chat or candidate@spottedzebra.co.uk to discuss what you need.

Allocating your extra time in self-serve flow
Once you’ve selected your options and clicked "Continue," our system checks your answers and the type of tests in your assessment.
Then, one of two things will happen:
- If extra time is needed, we’ll automatically add it to the timed parts of your test.
- If no changes are needed, we’ll explain why — for example, if your tests aren’t timed.
There are some reasons why you won't need extra time, such as:
- The tests you have aren't timed
- The test has no audio component and you've selected needing support with auditory instructions.
Seeing your extra time in self-serve flow
If you’ve been given extra time, you’ll see the percentage (%) added to each timed test.
For untimed tests or activities, no extra time is needed — you can take as long as you like.
If you have questions about your extra time or want to share specific needs, contact us via live chat or candidate@spottedzebra.co.uk.

Via the company
Please contact the company that sent you the assessment to request extra time. They will contact Spotted Zebra to apply your extra time.
If they’ve given a specific link or email, you’ll find it in:
-
Your invite email (if you received one)
-
The instructions at the start of your assessment

Via Spotted Zebra

Taking your assessment
Once your extra time has been applied, you can then begin your assessments.
You don’t need to complete everything in one go. You can take breaks between tests. Before each test starts, we’ll give you a quick overview of what to expect.

Tip: Most of our tests include a practice version that you can take as many times as you like.
